- Tell us about yourself: Who you are, where you’re from, and anything else you want the folks reading this to know.
Well emmm, the name’s Aerias. I’m aChicagoemcee for half my life. Been rapping, rhyming, battling etc since I was 15 so I guees that makes me good or at least relevant haha.
I also play guitar and belong to the Chicago Tribe bboy crew! (www.chicagotribecrew.com)
I’m pretty wild but I’m serious when it comes down to it. I just wanna have fun and change some lives while doing this. I got dreams…then again I got realities too! Haha.
I just dropped an album, “Scream Like You Mean It”. Its pretty raw! Haha. You can download it at www.aeriasmusic.com for FREE.99 haha.
- Is Aerias your real name? What does it mean or stand for?
AERIAS is a play off my real name. 3 is my lucky number and was trying to incorporate it into name.
I was up super late and was all groggy n stuff. My hand cramped uplater that night from writing and designing and the 3 looked like an “E” and well…yeah…it just looked cool so I kept it lol.
Favorites:
- Movie?
Oh man, so many. Top 3 though are: 300, The Dark Knight, Kill Bill!
- Cartoon?
NARUTO! (Imma nerd)
- Color?
All shades of Blue. If Blue were a woman, I’d marry her haha.
- Hobby (other than music)?
Damn, you got me haha. You’ll probably find me playing video games or movie hopping when I’m not doing anything music related. I love movies & video games. I’m still waiting for the zombie apocalypse though haha.
- Blonde or brunette?
BRUNETTES ALL DAY!!! I love me a woman with dark, mysterious features. Yummeh. Haha.
- Genre of music?
Literally all of them. I listen to country, techno rap whatever but since I’m an emcee, I have to say Hip Hop don’t I? Lol.
- Sports team?
CHICAGO BULLS BABY! I grew up watching those cats!
- How long have you been creating music?
since I was 9. My old man was in a salsa/mambo band and snuck me into the gigs cause he couldn’t leave me at home and stuff cause I’d either die or burn the house down haha.
- What inspires you to express yourself through music?
My innner demons and inner peace. Lots of artists are inspired by there enviroment or experiences. I motivated by the change I want to see in myself and the change I want to see in others.
Words are powerful, if you use them correctly, you change lives for the better in the snap of a finger.
- Your flow is sick, how do you do it?
Haha thank you! Oh man I owe it all to Chicago. The battle scene in Chicago made me an animal. In Chicago, you gotta old your own lyrically. I grew up watching people like J.U.I.C.E, Prime, Pacifics, Eyedea etc etc and the could destroy egos easily. It was about battling when I was growing up.
Now that its more about music, I’m incorporating what I’ve learned from my city’s spitters and used it to make a powerful, fiery deliver.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still tear a dude up in a cypher or battle! Ha!
- I noticed you use a lot of sampled type instrumentals with your music, mixed with some soul flavor and a little bit of guitar. Has living in Chicago influenced the type of music you make, and if so, how?
Oh absolutely. Chicago is the home if House music and the Blues. I’m fully aware of that and make sure people hear it in the music. I play guitar during my live shows and on some of the instrumentals in the album.
I feel its only right to the people I sample and to the city I claim if I play the guitar as an homage to the pioneers before me. That…its just damn dope to play the guitar live haha.
- After listening to your latest work, “Scream Like You Mean It”, I literally felt all crunked up and wanted to scream… Is this the type of feeling you want to give listeners after they check out your music?
YES! I’m glad you felt that way! Maaaan, so many rappers forget its about a feeling. Its not always about just chillin or vibing. The human spirit wants to break out and go buck sometimes man!
I want people to break out of their shells and remember what its like to be alive!!! Imagine going to my live show and hearing Scream Like You Mean It (Track 1) and being in a moshpit and screaming with hundreds of other people!
That’s the stuff people remember! And that’s what keeps them coming back. A connection of fire and passion. THAT’S art!
- I love the “Bootleg Broad” song, because I know so many of them. Can you explain to the folks what exactly a “Bootleg Broad” is?
LOL! Man, a girl who acts like she’s all that but isn’t. Says she’s independent but can’t do anything on her own. That hates on good girls cause she has a dirty rep, a girl that has no ambition and is lazy as hell. A hypocrite pretty much.
A bootleg Broad is a chick you can spot right away. If you talk to a girl and in your head you’re like, “Eww” then CHA-CHING!!! BOOTLEG!!! Haha.
- Another favorite of mine from your album is your song “Try”, which you are spreading a positive message about never giving up on yourself, is this how you try to live your day to day life?
Always. There are struggles everyday. People need Hope. Not everyone is as fortunate as us and not everyone have sources of Hope or comfort. As an artists I feel its my job not just to entertain but to inspire and guive Hope as well.
People look to artists more than they do to people in higher authority so if I have fans I want them to feel like they can party with me, talk crap with me, vibe with me and grow with me. Fans will look to you for Hope eventually, if you can provide it, they’ll believe in you that much more.
- Why should people listen to your music, and where can they hear it? (plug websites here
)
People should listen to my music for the sake of music. I KNOW my albums different. This can open doors for a new era of music yknow? Not just to give me a chance but to give other artists LIKE me a chance too!
